Most of the women have two ovaries which are located on either side of the uterus and form an important part of the female reproductive system. The ovaries produce eggs which are fertilized by the male sperm resulting in pregnancy. The ovaries also produce the female hormones estrogen and progesterone which makes a woman feminine. Cysts are fluid filled sacs which develop inside one or both the ovaries. The most commonly found cysts are the follicle cyst, corpus luteum cyst, dermoid cyst and the the endometriomas. The best thing about most of the ovarian cysts is that they do not cause any symtpoms and are mostly diagnosed when you are unsucessful in getting pregnant despite trying for some time. However some of the females may suffer from pain in the bowel, pain before and after the menstrual cycle, pain in the thighs or lower back and pain during sexual intercourse. Some females may suffer from more severe symptoms like fever, faintness, dizziness and rapid breathing. Ovarian cysts can be easily diagnosed on an ultrasound scan which may be followed with MRI Pelvis and some blood tests to rule out ovarian cancer. Most of the cysts do not require any treatment and would disappear in a few months time on their own. However you must follow up with your gynaecologist who may do a repeat ultrasound scan to check the status of the ovaries and the cyst inside them.
Most of the cysts would not require any medicines but if the cysts do not disappear on their own and are interfering in your efforts to get pregnant then your gynaecologist may prescribe some medicines to shrink the cyst or to prevent its growth. Smaller cysts in the ovaries can be removed surgically using a Laparoscope but if the cyst is large then abdominal surgery might be required for removing it. If the doctor suspects malignancy then instead of removing the cysts, the gynaecologist may advice you to get the ovaries removed and in some cases even the uterus and the fallopian tubes alongwith the ovaries. Though most of the ovarian cysts are non-cancerous but a casual approach cannot be taken towards the ovarian cysts as the human cost of letting the malignancy go unnoticed would be very high. If the cyst is larger then 5 cm in diameter and is not disappearing on its own despite waiting for some months then going for surgical removal is the best option to retain fertility. The biggest challenge comes in patients who are looking to get pregnant and the ovaries have large cysts as preserving the ovaries is of paramount importance. The gynaecologists at Sethi Hospital have successfully removed very large ovarian cysts and managed to preserve the ovaries in a lot many cases. They have given best results in some of the most challenging cases in Gurgaon.
Dr Pushpa Sethi and her team has huge experience in the treatment of all kinds of female hormonal disorders specially Ovarian Cysts. The costs associated with the treatment of ovarian cyst would depend on the type of treatment given. While the cost of initial consultation followed by an ultrasound scan would be Rs. 2000, there may be some blood test which may cost another 3-4 thousand rupees. Since most of the ovarian cysts do not require any treatment you may just be required to get another ultrasound done at a gap of 2-3 months costing Rs. 1500. However if surgery is required then the Laparoscopic Ovarian Cyst Removal can cost anywhere between Rs. 30 - 45 thousand. The hospital stay for this kind of surgery would be 1-2 days and the recovery would take another 4-5 days. However if the surgery is done abdominally then the cost would be the same but the hospital stay increases by 1-2 days and the recovery would take 10-12 days. Ovarian Cyst Treamtment is covered by most of the health insurance companies after the completion of two years of your policy. However if you are holding a company provided health insurance then the treatment is covered from day one and you do not have to to wait for getting the treatment.
